• Thon Fundraising Tops $1.6 billion in 2009
  Exercising for a good cause retained its popularity in 2009, but the amount raised by people running, walking or cycling in "thons" fell by 7.6% due to the economic downturn, according to the Run Walk Ride Fundraising Council, the leading authority on athletic event fundraising. • Vermont Man's Barefoot Trek Runs Into Trouble
  Tellman Knudson told the world last September he would run barefoot the equivalent of a marathon a day from New York City to Los Angeles to raise $100 million for homeless teens. But after spending four months and $500,000 in road expenses to reach West Virginia, Knudson has returned to his Vermont home to "regroup." He's now facing questions about why his charity says it's an officially registered nonprofit even though its name doesn't appear on the Internal Revenue Service's list of recognized organizations.   Boston, MA January 7, 2010 -- The Crohn's & Colitis Foundation and US Road Sports & Entertainment Group today announced that the inaugural 13.1 Marathon® Boston taking place on June 27, 2010 will benefit the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation. • Will charity runs leave donors exhausted?
  Some markets, such as the Valley, could become saturated. More races mean more competition for limited dollars and for participants; more confusion as multiple charities raise money for the same cause; and more financial and physical exhaustion for participants who tire of giving race after race.
